Reciproc Blue System. Dentsply Preparation Files

Basic description of the Reciproc Blue system suggested for students in our courses, part of the guide to the main systems available in Brazil.

Description:

The RECIPROC® system was introduced to the market in 2011. This system is, from this moment on, marketed by the VDW company that had as its mentor and creator Professor Yared. The Reciproc® was designed to be a "single instrument", meaning that only one instrument is needed to instrument the dental canal (Yared,
2011).
In the presentation of the Reciproc® system, Professor Ghassan Yared stated that the instrument and its increased cutting ability allow the RECIPROC® file to follow the existing and natural path of least resistance, which is what we call the root canal.
These files are used in a reciprocal movement that requires special automation given by the motors that produce the desired movement. The Reciproc® files are divided by different sizes, they are:
- R25 (0.25mm apical gauge and 8% taper);
- R40 (0.40mm apical gauge and 6% taper);
- R50 (0.50mm apical gauge and 5% taper); (De-Deus et al., 2010)

For the selection of the Reciproc® files an analysis of the initial radiograph is performed. If the canal is partially visible or invisible on the radiograph, the canal is considered narrow and R25 is selected. In other cases, where the radiograph clearly shows the canal from the access cavity to the apex, the canal is considered medium or wide. If the radiograph shows sharpness of the apex access cavity, a size 30 file should be introduced passively (with a gentle instrumentation movement), to working length. If it reaches the CT, the canal is considered medium. If it goes to the apparent length of the tooth, the canal is considered wide, the R50 file is selected, but if the size 30 file doesn't reach the length, but a size 20 file does, the R40 file should be used. If the size 20 file does not reach the length, the R25 file is selected (Yared, 2008).

The Reciproc Blue system was launched on the market in 2016. VDW introduces Professor Ghassan Yared, once again, as the mentor of this system. It distinguishes itself from others thanks to its ability to alter the NiTi alloy resulting from modifications to its microstructure. Thus, recently, NiTi alloy with specific treatments (M-Wire) have been used in the manufacture of rotary files, such as the Reciproc Blue®. M-Wire gives greater flexibility and higher resistance to cyclic and torsional fracture (Gündoğar, and Özyürek, 2017).
its metal alloy by virtue of the new heat treatment, to which this file is subjected, which gives it a very unique visual characteristic, blue in color. This new heat treatment, to which the new file is subjected, is not the only unique characteristic. It also has, as a peculiarity in the file, an "S" shaped cross-section with two cutting edges and an inactive tip (Gündoğar and Özyürek, 2017).
This file system is divided in exactly the same way as the Reciproc® system, that is, we can find three files with the same diameters and conicities (Yared, 2013).
