Mtwo. VDW preparation system.

Mtwo. Basic description of the VDW Mtwo system suggested for students in our courses, part of the guide to the main systems available in Brazil.

Manufacturer's description:

NiTi file system for traditional procedures.

  • High fracture toughness
  • Excellent cutting performance
  • No screw effect
  • Safe use over the entire length of the job from the smallest file size (no crown down technique, as all file movements are brush movements on the CRT)
  • Basic Sequence with only 4 instruments
  • Suitable for all counter-angles and torque limited motors
  • Recommended speed 150-300 rpm
  • Sterilized
  • Also available in packs with 6 units of a single number
  • Inactive tip
  • Orientation marks are radiopaque

Mtwo system in: Machado R.Princípios Biológicos e Técnicos. Ed. GEN, 2022:

The Mtwo® (VDW) system consists of instruments machined from a conventional NiTi alloy, marketed in 21, 25 and 31 mm lengths. They are divided into a basic and complementary sequence, as well as single instruments (Figure 14.25). All are identified by a colored ring on the handle, which differentiates the tip diameter according to ISO standards. The taper is identified by grooves in the same location (1, 2, 3 and 4 grooves correspond to .04, .05, .06 and .07 tapers respectively). The Mtwo® (VDW) system instruments have an "S" shaped cross section and can be used on any engine capable of continuous rotary motion that allows speed and torque control.

According to Yang et al. (2011), instrumentation with the Mtwo® and ProTaper® Universal systems provided similar results regarding prepared area, volume, curvature maintenance and percentage of untouched root canal walls. However, the Mtwo® system was able to perform more centralized and regular preparations.

De-Deus et al. (2016) concluded that instrument n. 10/.04 of the Mtwo® system showed superior results for performing the glide path compared to Proglider® (Dentsply-Maillefer) (see below) and ProDesign Logic®, n. 25/.01 (Easy) instruments in moderately curved mandibular molars. Superior results were obtained only by the ScoutRace® 10/.02 instrument (FKG Dentaire, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland) (see below). Furthermore, comparative studies have shown the Mtwo® (VDW) system to be better able to respect the anatomy of the root canal and maintain its original shape than the K3® (SybronEndo) and Race® (FKG) systems on resin blocks and extracted teeth.
