Apicification in a tooth with incomplete rhizogenesis.

Apicification case. Patient under orthodontic treatment sought care for tooth 22, asymptomatic, on the recommendation of another colleague. In the clinical examination, pulp chamber already accessed and absence of response to percussion and palpation tests. Radiographic and tomographic examination revealed incomplete root formation and periapical bone rarefaction. After careful decontamination of the canal walls, with minimal wear, it was then filled with calcium hydroxide. In the second session, one month later, the canal was filled with a calcium hydroxide P.A. plug in the region of bone gap and partial absence of dentin walls. MTA was then placed until the canal was completely filled.

Apicification case carried out by the students Osvaldo Guimarães and Adriano Yassunaga, from class V of the Specialization in Endodontics of HPG Brasília.

Endodontic treatment in incomplete rhizogenesis, in teeth with pulp vitality, performed in the period of mixed dentition, has completely different particularities in relation to teeth with a completely formed apex, and the dentist must be familiar with these differences, which range from access surgery, to the phase of irrigation and preparation, and especially the obturation and the materials and techniques used in this phase.

Unlike conventional treatment, endodontics on teeth with incomplete root formation has a more conservative view and a less invasive approach. It is an area that usually lies between pediatric dentistry and endodontics, often with different views of treatment between the two areas of dentistry.
